Gold Edges Higher but Remains on Track for a Weekly Decline
Spot gold was approximately US$4,287.60 per troy ounce at 9:54 PM Singapore time on 25 September, up about 0.3% from the previous close, according to current market data. Using an indicative USD/SGD rate of 1.2790, this equals an estimated S$176.31 per gram before retailer charges.
Despite Friday’s modest recovery, gold was around 2% lower for the week. Reuters reported that a stronger US dollar and expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates elevated have pressured bullion. Higher Treasury yields also make non-yielding gold relatively less attractive. Oil-related inflation concerns continue to influence expectations for further monetary tightening.
For Singapore gold retailers, the stronger US dollar raises the local-currency cost of imported gold and may offset part of any decline in the international bullion price. Businesses should check both spot gold and USD/SGD before confirming weekend quotations or replenishing inventory.
Prices may change throughout the day and exclude retailer premiums, workmanship charges and spreads.
